1423: At The Table Of Herb

I don't even know if anyone reads this.

So I won't hesitate. Here's a lecture,
one with which the entire world disagrees,
Only in my heart, I know it is true

~

It's food. Here are the things we know about food.

1. 'Life isn't all about food. You should think about something other than food.'
Isn't that true? There are plenty of other things in life, & I would think you had a problem if your life revolved around it. Wait a minute, though . . . In a way, you can't help that your life revolves around it. You're healthier if you aren't always thinking about it. Gluttony and obsession are to be avoided; and you should think about something else. Only what if we removed food? What if you stopped getting it? Then it became the only thing you could think about. What would you think, love, if someone told you at that moment? - 'Life isn't all about food. You should think about something else.'

2. 'Everyone knows what it feels like to want food.'
In a way, yes; In a way, no. You have probably wanted something. Posted your statuses and your Tweets about some restaurant you wanted to go to, some food item you wanted to buy, about how 'starving' you are & about how it's all you can think about. Only do you really understand? Do you really know what it feels like to be worried? That, maybe, you aren't going to get any? That maybe, there isn't really a realistic opportunity for food in miles? Have you felt that? Have you lived in those countries? I believe you should think about that. If someone from a country like That ever tells you they want food, are you going to tell them 'I know how you feel'? Are you going to show them your Tweets about wanting something at midnight?

3. 'You'll get to eat sometime. Calm down.'
Same thing. Suppose you are talking to someone from one of those countries. Are you going to tell them this? Are you going to say that the Natural Timetable of things is sufficient? That all they've got to do is wait their Turn even if they haven't eaten in five days? Well, are you going to say that? Yes, you probably would. Because that's what food is to you. This constant, unfailing availability at an All-You-Can-Eat table.

4. 'Go on a diet.'
Same thing again. You think a diet is healthy. You think it has to work for everyone, just because you know it would help you. Would you truly do this? What if one of these donate-now-commercials children asked you for something? Would you tell them about your diet? Would you recommend it? No; a diet is not the right thing for everyone. And in fact, if we think we can place our self-serving diets on the rest of the world, we might be just as willing to kill them as we are to ignore them. Only I don't think you understand.

The fact is, you live in a shell. You understand that food is one thing. Just a resource, just a quick grab, just something you get when you want it, something that's always there. You think it's there for everyone. When will you understand that it isn't? But worst of all, you have probably already imagined that it isn't. For people whose lives are like that, you try & imagine their world. You conclude it really must not be so bad. Life without food? 'Sounds great,' you say. 'I eat too much anyway.' And you are saying this to the wrong faces.

You know,
I think there are two types of people in the world
People who would be wondering right now, 'Why is he writing about food?'
And people who understand symbolism
But understanding symbolism is not going to take you away from your bubble
& no matter how clearly you may understand food, you will refuse to accept this

~

You:
What's wrong? Why is this so difficult to do for you?
I think I know why. Because you're just a snacker.
no one really cares.
